Though I feel like your modern sprite seems a bit... blurry? The one on the left leaves a very clear image in comparison. Still some dang good improvement though

That's mostly because of the shading and anti-aliasing distribution, something I changed a lot over the years.

Good stuff man, though the flashing feels fast enough to earn an epilepsy warning somewhere (or you could slow down the animation a bit).
